10 Great Horror Anthologies to Watch While You're Waiting for 'V/H/S'

SXSW is often a schizophrenic film festival. On one screen you could watch a deeply personal documentary examining how human beings as a race interact with one another, and then see an Indonesian action extravaganza on another. Sometimes even within a single film the tone can shift so many times that you feel like you’re watching several movies at once. In horror circles, we sometimes actively seek out this experience by watching anthology films.

These films are made up of several short segments, or vignettes, telling a variety of stories. At this year’s fest, a brand new entry into this celebrated subgenre was unleashed upon us unsuspecting fest-goers. V/H/S, with its multi-tale format, reminds us of some of our favorite horror anthologies from years past.

V/H/S will arrive on VOD on August 31, then in theaters October 5.
