'Underworld: Rise of the Lycans' Director Will Wage an Angels-vs.-Demons War in 'New Babylon'

Underworld: Rise of the Lycans director Patrick Tatopoulos is getting biblical in his newest feature, a science fiction fantasy epic titled New Babylon.

Tatopoulos will bring his background as a creature designer to the table for this story set in a near-future version of the Middle East where a war between demons and angels inspires the building of a new Tower of Babel according to a report in Deadline.

Hydra Entertainment is producing New Babylon – which sounds like a match made more in Heaven than Hell. Tatopoulos had this to say about the project.

“We have some very ambitious ideas for the world, characters and story of this movie, and I can already see that the innovative virtual design and story development techniques being employed at Hydra are going to make all the difference in exploring those concepts and putting them on-screen in a visually stunning way.”

Honestly, it kinda sounds like a bigger budget version of the Prophecy movies, which also featured angels and demons duking it out. Heck, it’s not even that big a stretch from Underworld, which had vampires and werewolves fighting a war. This should be well within Tatoupolos’ wheelhouse, that’s for sure.

No word on who’s in the running for the lead roles yet, but expect more on New Babylon in the not-too-distant future.
