The Impossible

Ewan McGregor: Fresh off playing Naomi Watts’ husband in tsunami drama The Impossible, Ewan McGregor will take on the challenge of playing Julia Roberts’ husband in August: Osage County. The film, based on the award-winning play by Tracy Letts about a dysfunctional family, is a star-studded affair, with Meryl Streep, Benedict  Cumberbatch, Chris Cooper, Sam Shepherd, Abigail Breslin and Dermot Mulroney also set. Pacific Rim: Director Guillermo del Toro chose to shoot his giant-scaled creature feature Pacific Rim in traditional 2D, and is on the record as resisting the idea of post-conversion, but now he has evidently been convinced by Warner Bros. that 3D is the way to go. Speculation is rising that the studio doesn’t want to miss out on potential profits from the 3D surcharge for one of next summer’s most-anticipated movies. [Variety]

300: Rise of an Empire: Perhaps fearing that no one would be able to pronounce it, the title for a prequel/sequel has been changed. Formerly known as 300: The Battle of Artemisia, the film will now be known as 300: Rise of an Empire. Production is underway, with a theatrical release set for August 2, 2013. [Deadline]

Wreck-It Ralph Trailer: The more we see, the more we like Wreck-It Ralph, the animated tale of a video game character who decides to seek out new life and new civilizations in the arcade. Voices include John C. Reilly and Sarah Silverman; the film is due in theaters on November 2. Check out a new trailer below. [Yahoo! Movies]
