There are a handful of Japanese filmmakers that will instantly catch the eye of any Western film geek. Takeshi Kitano is one of them. He is perhaps most widely recognized as the teacher from Battle Royale, but for decades Kitano has been a staple of Japanese cinema not just for his acting, but also his writing and directing. Kitano is no stranger to the ripe cinematic world of the Japanese gangster, and now he's back at it with Outrage, which he writes, directs and stars in.
Magnet Releasing will be giving those with a taste for Yakuza bloodshed plenty to drink up when they debut Outrage on VOD October 28th, followed by a theatrical run on December 2nd. In the mean time, we are pleased to whet your appetites with the film's US poster. And if it gets you in the mood for some magnificent Japanese filmmaking, we highly, highly recommend (seriously, it's one of the best films of the year) checking out 13 Assassins, which Magnet put out earlier this year.
OUTRAGE: WAY OF THE MODERN YAKUZA - In a ruthless battle for power, several yakuza clans vie for the favor of their head family in the Japanese underworld. The rival bosses seek to rise through the ranks by scheming and making allegiances sworn over saké. Long-time yakuza Otomo has seen his kind go from elaborate body tattoos and severed fingertips to becoming important players on the stock market. Theirs is a never-ending struggle to end up on top, or at least survive, in a corrupt world where there are no heroes but constant betrayal and vengeance.
