Artist Matthew Mazzotta created a space in the city of York, Alabama where the public can congregate for open-air performances and movies. The city's downtown area is overrun with abandoned houses, and Mazzotta wanted to transform one of the blighted properties into a public space for community entertainment. Using materials from the abandoned house on the property, he built a smaller house. It unfolds to transform into a 100-seat theater when the walls and roof are collapsed.
The below video offers more information about the project and shows the assembly/disassembly of the house. Residents of York were recently treated to a screening of Dr. Seuss' The Lorax. We hope there will be many more movies in their future at this ingenious little theater. [Spotted via Design Taxi]
