Update: Check out the new red-band trailer for Only God Forgives that just hit online. If you loved Drive, trust us, you're going to want to mark your calendars for May 23, 2013 right now.
Only God Forgives, Nicolas Winding Refn's Thai-set crime thriller starring Ryan Gosling, is expected to make its premiere at the Cannes Film Festival in May. A teaser clip has appeared online [via Collider], and although it's brief and of cruddy quality, the director's trademark stylish mayhem still shines through. In other words, May can't get here soon enough.
Gosling stars as an exiled criminal mastermind hiding out in Thailand, operating a boxing club as a front for his family's drug operation. His brother is murdered, and Kristin Scott Thomas plays the "merciless and terrifying mafia godmother" who instructs him to seek revenge. The family that slays together, stays together. The actor has been undergoing Muay Thai training to prepare for the violent part, and it looks like his dedication has paid off based on the little we see in this video.
Will the fisticuffs carnage top what we saw in Refn and Gosling's Drive? In case the powers that be are listening, a full trailer in HD would be a lovely belated holiday gift.
