Off Screen, our corner that keeps track of big-screen characters and properties in other media, be they comics, books, TV shows or video games.
Good news, Fashionistas – author Lauren Weisberger is hard at work on a sequel to The Devil Wears Prada.
The new novel, entitled Revenge Wears Prada: The Devil Returns, will hit retailers in April of 2013 – a decade after the debut of the original book. Weisberger’s roman a clef, inspired by her time as second assistant to Vogue editor Anna Wintour, quickly rocketed to the top of the bestseller charts and inspired the 2006 film starring Meryl Streep and Anne Hathaway.
The sequel is set to pick up eight years after Hathaway’s character left Streep’s employ and now runs a successful bridal magazine of her own. That being said, it’s only a matter of time before Streep’s Miranda shows up to cause conflict and create dramatic tension.
Given the original film’s success (it earned $326 million in global box office on a reported $35 million budget), it seems very likely that we’ll see Revenge Wears Prada on a big screen sometime in the next few years. The question is, are audiences ready for another trip into the cutthroat world of high fashion or not? We suspect the answer will be yes.
