A tale told in two volumes and eight chapters, Lars von Trier’s Nymphomaniac finally has a trailer that encapsulates the double release about one woman’s erotic journey. “My name is Joe, and I'm a nymphomaniac… and I love my dirty, filthy lust,” Charlotte Gainsbourg’s self-described sex addict utters at a wide-eyed support group in this new exclusive TV spot.
“There was a world I had to explore,” she tells us as scenes of her character bent over a sofa, about to be whipped, play on. Of course, it wouldn’t be von Trier without tongue planted firmly in cheek, which we get a taste for when Jamie Bell’s “K” quips back to the wriggling, shrieking Joe: “Most people don't scream until I hit them.” The TV spot also touches upon the agonizing self-loathing Joe experiences, which Stellan Skarsgård’s character simply responds with: “You were a woman demanding her right.” Still, that seems to come with a hefty price as we see cars exploding and houses torn asunder.
If you aren’t feeling brave enough to indulge in von Trier’s two-volume sexcapades, there’s always VOD. Volume two of Joe’s lusty tale will premiere On Demand tomorrow, March 20. Volume I is now available via On Demand and opens in theaters Friday, March 21. Volume II follows with a theatrical release on April 4.
