I think I speak for everyone when I say that we all want the awkward boner quotient surrounding Lars von Trier’s sex opus Nyphmomaniac to be at a minimum. Thankfully, Magnolia Pictures has decided to release the film about one woman’s sexual journey via On Demand, in addition to a newly announced theatrical date.
You can watch Charlotte Gainsbourg’s self-diagnosed nympho Joe joined (quite literally) by Stellan Skarsgård, Shia LaBeouf, Christian Slater, Uma Thurman, Sophie Kennedy Clark, Connie Nielsen and Udo Kier when part one of the digital release hits VOD on March 6. Part two will be released on April 3. If you prefer to see the “whoring bed” on the big screen, the film will debut in theaters on March 21 (part one) and April 18 (part two).
So, it’s going to be viewer’s choice come March. Magnolia was smart to continue the VOD trend with von Trier's films, especially since there will be a portion of audiences who aren't comfortable watching graphic sex in a public venue with people they probably wouldn't even want to have dinner with. We're still waiting for epic protests and bigger controversey amongst theaters and moral groups who will make a stink out of things, but hopefully everyone can play along like adults. Will you brave theaters for von Trier's erotic tale, or will you be watching from home?
