The Next Big Superhero Crossover May Feature the 'X-Men' and 'Fantastic Four' in One Movie

Fantastic Four X-Men crossoverOne of the things Marvel and Disney have done really well in their comic book films is create the vibe that everything is happening in the same cinematic world. Cameos and after-credits teasers have been subtle (and occasionally not so subtle) reminders to the audience that The Avengers films are taking place in the same universe as The Hulk, Thor, Captain America and so on.

Fox apparently sees the benefit of that practice, and now “creative consultant” Mark Millar has dropped hints that the studio might employ the same technique in its upcoming projects – but take it in an even bigger direction familiar to anyone who’s read Marvel comics over the past few decades by utilizing the crossover.

What this potentially means is that we could very well be seeing the X-Men turn up in a Fantastic Four movie, or vice versa. Millar offered up his thoughts when speaking to SFX recently:

Without question I think you have to see some of these guys showing up in each other’s movies. I think the most exciting thing in superhero movies, until The Avengers came along, was when Nick Fury showed up in Iron Man. Even though it was a guy with an eye patch it was really cool – and I expect we will see more of that.”

Millar is probably right in that this needs to happen – it’s just a tougher deal for Fox to pull off than it is for Disney, since Fox has fewer properties to do it with. That being said, there are a whole lot of X-Men who could turn up in a Fantastic Four film – and maybe we can see something like the Thing and Beast going toe-to-toe before joining forces. Of course, the first order of business is getting The Fantastic Four rebooted after their earlier films.

What do you guys think? Does the idea of seeing Wolverine hanging out with Reed Richards make you excited or fill you with dread? Weigh in below.

UPDATE: Despite Millar's teasing, he has confirmed on Twitter that there are currently no plans for a crossover.
