Even though many a fanboy has tried to crack the shell surrounding J.J. Abrams' second adventure with the crew of the Enterprise, plenty of mystery remains for Star Trek Into Darkness. That's a great thing as far as we're concerned. Oh, we love to speculate about the film, about who is playing who and what alien races will be popping up, but at the end of the day it's all in the spirit of wanting to imagine all the ways Abrams and company will be putting a smile on our faces come May 17, 2013.
Having said that, the new trailer for Star Trek Into Darkness definitely shows a whole lot more about the film. Don't worry, it doesn't reveal who Benedict Cumberbatch is specifically playing just yet, but it does set him up as a colossal, federation-destroying force to be reckoned with us. It also gives us a much better look at the variety of crazy scenarios Kirk and his crew get into this go around.
Oddly enough, the plot here is starting to look more and more similar to Skyfall: a rogue agent of the federation returning to attack his former headquarters and destroy those he once loved and respected. It even looks like he gets captured in the process and placed in a glass holding cell. We hope that's just a marketing problem, though, and this isn't actually just a space-bound version of Bond's latest outing.
What do you think?
"When the crew of the Enterprise is called back home, they find an unstoppable force of terror from within their own organization has detonated the fleet and everything it stands for, leaving our world in a state of crisis. With a personal score to settle, Captain Kirk leads a manhunt to a war-zone world to capture a one man weapon of mass destruction. As our heroes are propelled into an epic chess game of life and death, love will be challenged, friendships will be torn apart, and sacrifices must be made for the only family Kirk has left: his crew."
Also, here's a new poster that was revealed via urls hidden in the trailer.
