New Runaways Trailer, Is Locker Hurting? Smurf Casting and It's a Birdemic!

Riot Grrls I suspected casting the Twilight chick as Joan Jett was a bad idea before I heard her singing, and now I’m convinced, thanks to the full-length trailer for The Runaways, which seems to have been made only to give Dakota Fanning and KStew reason to run around in ‘70s costumes and feathered hair.
Hurting Locker In the epic movie battle that will be this Sunday’s Oscars The Hurt Locker is still favored to win, despite all the bombs being dropped left and right this week busting the movie for everything from accuracy to disrespect. War in Hollywood sure is hell.
More Blue People In case you hadn’t had enough of blue people onscreen, here comes WTF casting news about the Smurf movie: Katy Perry as Smurfette (?!) George Lopez as Grouchy Smurf, Alan Cumming as Gutsy Smurf and Neil Patrick Harris as our live human. At least Jonathan Winters as Papa Smurf makes some sort of sense.

Owl Give It a Look I’m willing to forgive the god-awful song Jared Leto’s greazy band supplies for the first trailer for Zack Snyder’s animated film Legend of the Guardians (formerly Guardians of Ga’hoole) only because it has the voices of Hugo Weaving and Sam Neill and some very neat-looking animation.
Birds of a Different Feather Absolutely nothing but nothing explains the sudden fascination with Birdemic, a sort of horror comedy that tackles everything from avian flu to world peace to sleeping around to, well, lavatory access. Rainn Wilson and Lost creator Damon Lindelof have been calling it the “greatest trailer ever” on Twitter—see it to believe it.
