While the Bible may admonish us to “put away childish things,” we revere filmmakers who have remained in touch with their childhood selves enough to tell stories through a young and inexperienced set of eyes. J.J. Abrams’ new film Super 8 pays homage to the kids-in-suburbia movies directed and produced over the years by Steven Spielberg, and the film’s evocation of a world as it is experience by pre-adolescents brought to mind other classics that do the same thing.
