The New 'Vacation' Series Will Bring the Old Griswolds Back to Walley World

Chevy Chase Vacation

Summer may be winding down, but there’s still plenty of time left to get in a vacation – at least one of the National Lampoon variety.

After much discussion, it appears that the reboot/sequel to the popular National Lampoon’s Vacation franchise is happening. Ed Helms will step into the shoes worn by Chevy Chase in the new feature, but those worried that Clark Griswold won’t be around should stop worrying now.

A new press release for the feature, simply titled Vacation, reveals that Ed Helms will be playing Clark’s son Rusty. Rusty gets the bright idea to take his family (Christina Applegate costars as his wife) on a road trip to Walley World – and we can only imagine what sorts of hilarious disasters they meet along the way.

Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley wrote the script for the new entry in the classic series, and will make their directorial debut as well. The cast is rounded out with Thor’s Chris Hemsworth (he plays Rusty’s super-successful brother-in-law), Charlie Day, and original stars Chevy Chase and Beverly D’Angelo.

While it’s hard to imagine a new Vacation being anywhere near as good as the original, we do like the casting for the update. Helms should make for a great Rusty Griswold, and the return of Chase and D’Angelo will make fans of the original films happy. Let’s just hope they’re not appearing in a brief cameo and actually have a role to play in the greater story.

What do you guys think? Are you ready to take another road trip with the Griswolds, or does a new Vacation movie sound more like a week at the in-laws?
