New 'Indiana Jones' Movie From Steven Spielberg and Harrison Ford Will Arrive in 2019

Mar 15, 2016

You loved seeing him return as old Han Solo in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, and now you're going to get to see Harrison Ford as old Indiana Jones for another installment of the character's eponymous adventure series. Indiana Jones 5, as we'll call it for now, is also bringing back Steven Spielberg in the director's chair. He's been at the helm of every part of the franchise so far, at least on the big screen.

This will be Disney's first Indiana Jones movie. The studio, which confirmed plans for the continuation of Indy a year ago, picked up the rights to further installments back in 2013, a year after acquiring Lucasfilm and with it the Star Wars universe. Like The Force AwakensIndiana Jones 5 will be produced by current Lucasfilm head Kathleen Kennedy, though she's always been a part of the franchise. She will again be joined by her producer husband Frank Marshall.

Now questions arise regarding what time period this movie will be set in. And could it involve Ford, who will turn 77 the week Indiana Jones is released, flashing back to his younger days still fighting Nazis? Perhaps they can get the same actor who'll portray young Han Solo in the upcoming standalone Star Wars anthology episode? But regardless, will Karen Allen be back as Marion? Will Shia LaBeouf reprise his role as their son, Mutt?

All that's known right now is they've got Spielberg, they've got Ford and they've got the release date of July 19, 2019. (Update: David Koepp, who wrote Jurassic Park and helped write Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, will come onboard to write the next Indy adventure.)

Whatever it entails, we'll all be there with great anticipation.
