New 'Battleship' Trailer Looks Like The 'Transformers' Sequel We Didn't Know We Were Getting in 2012

Dec 09, 2011

There's a title card about a third of the way through the new, Apple-debuted trailer for Battleship that proudly touts "From Hasbro, the company that brought you Transformers," though it quickly proves unnecessary considering after everything that follows that title card, it would be impossible to make the mistake that Battleship was dreamed up by anyone but the company that made Transformers.

Turns out the first teaser trailer did exactly what it was supposed to and merely hinted at what the movie was about and the scale of events. Granted, this new trailer still doesn't explain why aliens are launching a naval assault on Earth, but it does show that the carnage spans more than just the ocean. Apaprently no building or road is safe from the alien gunfire, which apparently use Transformers for ammo (the awesome pegs, a throwback to the board game it's based on, fired in the teaser are now nowhere to be seen).

This Peter Berg-directed special effects extravaganza, which looks like a helluva lot of fun, if you ask us, hits theaters the summer of 2012 and brings with it the acting talents of everyone from Liam Neeson to Rihanna to swimsuit model Brooklyn Decker.
