Neil Patrick Harris Is Hosting the 2015 Academy Awards

Oct 15, 2014

Hosting a big, fancy awards show is a tough gig, but Neil Patrick Harris makes it look pretty easy. The actor and performer has already enjoyed memorable stints hosting both the Emmy Awards (two times) and the Tony Awards (four times), but now he'll be stepping up to take lead on Hollywood's biggest night as the official host of the 2015 Academy Awards.

Harris takes the Oscars baton from Ellen DeGeneres, who hosted last year and did a great job entertaining the audience as well as churning out a ceremony that was the most social (and viral) in the history of the awards (remember that selfie?).

Now it'll be Harris' turn, who already got the ball rolling by posting this video of himself accepting the Oscars gig.

"It is truly an honor and a thrill to be asked to host this year’s Academy Awards," Harris said in an official statement. "I grew up watching the Oscars and was always in such awe of some of the greats who hosted the show. To be asked to follow in the footsteps of Johnny Carson, Billy Crystal, Ellen DeGeneres, and everyone else who had the great fortune of hosting is a bucket list dream come true.”

The 87th Academy Awards will air live on ABC on February 22. We give two thumbs up to this news.
