Many people groan when it comes to Syfy's original movie lineup, but filmmaker Drew Daywalt is the kind of guy you want creating outlandish creature features. The founder of Daywalt Fear Factory and director of MTV horror-comedy series Death Valley (he also writes a great column for our friends at FEARnet) will be making his Syfy original movie premiere on the greenest day of the year — St. Patrick's Day. Tomorrow at 9 PM Eastern, Daywalt's Leprechaun's Revenge — starring Billy Zane (The Roommate, Titanic), William Devane (Revenge, 24), and others — will tell the tale of a small town in Massachusetts being ravaged by a decades-old curse.
The story, of course, features one pissed off leprechaun — and we've all seen how ugly (and absurdly entertaining) the villainous Warwick Davis version of the folk tale invention can be. (Did we mention there's going to be a reboot of that?) Still, fans shouldn't tune in expecting a rehash of the same old thing, and here's why: Daywalt is a die-hard horror fanatic. He knows genre films, he's put his unique brand of humor and terror on everything he's done, and he's reassured folks that this is not a "Lucky Charms" character. Daywalt's version will be fun, but also harkens back to the darkly mystifying Celtic manifestation of the goblin-like creature.
So, give his ode to B-monster films a shot, let us know what you think, and go easy on the green beer. Check out a trailer for Leprechaun's Revenge below.
