Fans of the kind of audacious cinema that only Oliver Stone can provide will have to wait just a little bit longer for Natural Born Killers: 15th Anniversary Director’s Cut. The original unrated version was supposed to be released on DVD and Blu-ray by Warner Bros. on August 25 but has been inexplicably postponed until October 13. Maybe the twisted story about thrill killers Mickey (Woody Harrelson) and Mallory (Juliette Lewis) is better suited for the month of Halloween. This anniversary edition includes the new fascinating featurette “NBK Evolution: How Would It All Go Down Now?” that follows a timeline of the killers’ activities in our instantaneous user-generated media society of Facebook, Twitter and YouTube. Mickey and Mallory were born out of a media frenzy and essentially murdered for the media, so Blu-ray Bob shudders to think how they’d thrive today in a world where every citizen’s most trivial move is tweeted across the known universe (“Just missed my bus! LOL.”). The Blu-ray version also includes a new high-definition introduction by Stone and a 44-page booklet on the film’s production.
