We thought we covered all of today’s big casting news in our earlier casting roundup, but leave it to Natalie Portman to come along and make a grand entrance all on her own.
The actress, who hasn’t worked since winning a Best Actress Oscar for her performance in Black Swan and then taking maternity leave, has announced that she has two projects lined up for her return to the silver screen. Each one is for Tree of Life director Terrence Malick and both will shoot in the second half of 2012.
First up, Portman will join Christian Bale, Cate Blanchett, and Isabel Lucas in Knight of Cups, which is slated to film this summer. As you may recall, Bale and Malick made headlines last fall when the director filmed the Batman star walking around the Austin City Limits music festival. Adding Portman to the mix makes this an even more intriguing project.
Once she’s finished with that film, Portman is set to move on to Lawless, which finds her working alongside Bale, Blanchett, Ryan Gosling, Rooney Mara, and Haley Bennett.
The enigmatic Malick is keeping the plot details of both films under wraps, but perhaps we’ll learn more when the European Film Market gets underway in Berlin. Both titles are expected to generate significant interest at the foreign sales event.
