Sam Mendes’ new installment in the venerable James Bond series of films still doesn’t have a title (which is why we’re all calling it Bond 23…), but it may well have a new actress for Daniel Craig’s British superspy to cavort around with. English tabloid News of the World is reporting that actress Naomie Harris is currently in negotiations to play 007’s “sexy sidekick” in the new feature.
Harris is a rising young actress who first garnered attention in Danny Boyle’s 28 Days Later and then jumped ship to the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise. If cast, the actress will join Craig and Judi Dench in the new film – slated for a November 9th, 2012 release date.
While citing a source like News of the World for casting news is a dubious practice at best, more reliable outlets like EW.com and IndieWire have also picked up on the story through their own insiders – meaning that this bit of potential casting seems to have at least some traction. While Harris isn’t Megan Fox – who seems to be the fanboy’s choice to be Bond’s newest conquest – she’s still an intriguing candidate who could use the role to launch herself into the next tier of Hollywood stardom. At the very least, she’s a more compelling choice than someone like Denise Richards, who played Dr. Christmas Jones in 1999’s The World is Not Enough.
With several months until filming starts, expect lots more Bond 23 casting rumors in the days ahead – including potential villain replacements should Ralph Fiennes and Javier Bardem pass on the opportunity to match wits – and weapons – with the world’s greatest secret agent.
We’ll bring you more Bond news as details emerge – but until then, what do you think of this potential bit of casting?
