Must-see Fan Art: A Gorgeous Tribute to Studio Ghibli and Alternate, Minimalist 'Harry Potter' Posters

Jul 17, 2013

Iconic Japanese animation film staple Studio Ghibli is renowned for gorgeous, ethereal creations that reference ancient fairy tales with a modern sensibility. Princess Mononoke, Spirited AwayHowl's Moving Castle and more of these sentimental films are the subject of DeviantArtist Yaphleen's poster illustrations. The painterly artworks inspire an overwhelming feeling of wonder and imagination — just like the movies. We've gathered several of them below for you to enjoy.

The animation giant is releasing a new film on July 20 from the estimable Hayao Miyazaki: Kaze Tachinu is based on the manga of the same name (and short story by Tatsuo Hori). It's a biopic about the engineer who designed Japanese fighter planes during World War II. [via Design Taxi]

Also on the movie-art-tribute front is a collection from artist Adam Rabalais. His Harry Potter series takes a unique approach to the fantasy franchise. The posters are bold, contemporary and symbolic, with just enough variation to draw you in. Although the film series has come to an end, news recently surfaced that Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling wrote a book using a male nom de plume.
