'Muppets' Director in Talks to Helm 'Alice in Wonderland' Sequel

May 31, 2013

Johnny Depp mad hatterThe Muppets director James Bobin is a popular fellow over at Disney. He’s already hard at work making a sequel to the 2011 hit, and now he’s in talks to helm yet another sequel for the House of Mouse – a follow-up to Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland.

Disney is keen on the idea of another Alice film. The original made over a billion… wait, that can’t be right, can it? It made a billion dollars? The movie where Johnny Depp looks like the demented offspring of Ronald McDonald, the Wendy's logo and Pennywise the Clown? That made a billion dollars worldwide? For real? I’ll be damned…

So, yeah, it made over a billion dollars in global ticket sales and Disney commissioned a sequel script from Linda Woolverton (who wrote the first film’s script as well) late last year. Apparently, things are still moving full speed ahead.

Discussions are reportedly in the early stages, with Bobin having not yet met with the sequel’s producers. It would be a promising sign if he does eventually agree to do the job – then the question becomes whether or not they can get Depp to return to terrify us all again. Hide your children if that comes to pass...
