Independence Day

Independence Day 2: We just heard that a sequel to Independence Day has finally been confirmed and is on its way to theaters on July 3, 2015, without any word on Will Smith's participation. Director Roland Emmerich now says, however, that Smith definitely won't return "because he's too expensive, but also because he'd be too much of a marquee name." Emmerich claims that half the cast will be returning characters, with the other half being entirely new; he also says the movie will be "something that's totally unusual." [New York Daily News]

Hercules: Dwayne Johnson plays the half-god, half-human titular hero of Brett Ratner's Hercules, but he demonstrates his skills with social media in new photos that he's shared. He captioned a picture from the makeup trailer thusly: "Asked how I got my shoulder slice scars. From a satisfied woman w/long-ass nails). " OK, Hercules, whatever you say! The movie's due in theaters on July 25, 2014. [Dwayne Johnson's Twitter]

Into the Woods: Anna Kendrick, who demonstrated her vocal chops accompanied only by a cup in last year's sleeper hit Pitch Perfect, is now in talks to play (and sing) the key role of Cinderella in the big-screen adaptation of stage musical Into the Woods. Rob Marshall (Chicago) is set to direct, with stars including Johnny Depp, Meryl Streep, Chris Pine and Jake Gyllenhaal "in various stages of negotation." The movie is scheduled for release in time for Christmas 2014. [The Hollywood Reporter]

Jobs Trailer: The first trailer for Jobs, known as jOBS when it premiered at Sundance earlier this year, has finally rolled out, and it works hard to sell Ashton Kutcher as the visionary Steve Jobs, cofounder of Apple. Does it succeed? Watch it and decide for yourself. The movie, which also stars Josh Gad, Dermot Mulroney and Matthew Modine, is due out on August 16. [Yahoo! Movies]
