Yukikaza: Tom Cruise, who stars in this week’s big-budget sci-fi flick Oblivion and will be seen next year in Doug Liman’s sci-fi thriller All You Need Is Kill, has lined up yet another sci-fi project. Titled Yakikaza, it’s based on a series of novels by Chohei Kambayashi that take place after Earth is invaded by an alien force in the 21st century. There’s no word yet on who will write the screenplay, much less who might direct. [Deadline]

IMAX: More than by the way, Oblivion looks and sounds spectacular on a giant IMAX screen, and two more potential sci-fi blockbusters are planning to take advantage of the large-screen format. Both Michael Bay’s Transformers 4 and Christopher Nolan’s Instellar will be shooting footage in IMAX, though it’s not yet clear how big a percentage of each film will be IMAX-ed out. Transformers 4 is due on June 27, 2014, with Instellar following on November 7. [The Hollywood Reporter]

American Hustle: David O. Russell is currently shooting a film about the ABSCAM scandal that enveloped Congress in the late '70s and early '80s, with a star-filled cast that includes Christian Bale, Bradley Cooper, Jennifer Lawrence, Robert De Niro and Amy Adams -- and a title with an obscenity (American Bulls---) that we have chosen not to share in full. As expected, however, the film has receved a new title, American Hustle, which we hope won’t make anyone remember 1975’s big hit dance single “The Hustle.” [Box Office Mojo via Collider]

The Kings of Summer Trailer: If you need a smile today -- and don’t we all -- watch the joyful full-length trailer for The Kings of Summer, which revolves around three teenage boys, their parents, a house in the woods and, yes, a wonderful summer. (Psst -- our own Erik Davis is quoted in the trailer; see his review for more.) The movie opens on May 31. [Apple]
