Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol

Mission: Impossible 5: Tom Cruise has confirmed what was, for all intents and purposes, a foregone conclusion: he will star in and help produce Mission: Impossible 5. The previous installment, directed by Brad Bird, made more than $700 million worldwide. Still up in the air, however, is who will write and/or direct the project. Back in November, Christopher McQuarrie, who worked with Cruise on Jack Reacher, was named as the only candidate for the directing job, but his availability is in question. [Deadline]

Ice Station Zebra: Christopher McQuarrie may not be available to work on Mission: Impossible 5 because he's now been signed to write and direct a new version of Ice Station Zebra, based on a Cold War thriller by Alistair MacLean. The first version, directed by John Sturges and starring Rock Hudson and Ernest Borgnine, was released in 1968. As with Paramount's Mission: Impossible 5, no release date has been targeted yet for this Warner Bros. release. [The Hollywood Reporter]

Jane Got a Gun: The musical chairs-like search for an actor to play the villain opposite Natalie Portman in the Western Jane Got a Gun has ended (for now). Ewan McGregor will fearlessly take on the role, reteaming him with Portman for the first time since the Star Wars prequel trilogy. Previous villains who signed and then dropped out of the movie for one reason or another include Michael Fassbender, Jude Law and Bradley Cooper. [Deadline]

Nebraska: Alexander Payne's Nebraska, his follow-up to the Academy Award-winning The Descendants, promises to be a highlight of the fall movie season when it opens on November 22. The first official image has been released, revealing Bruce Dern and Will Forte as father and son on a road trip. The movie will premiere at the Cannes Film Festival later this month. [USA Today]

Man of Steel TV Spot: With just a hint of plot thrown into the mix, the new TV spot for Zack Snyder's Man of Steel leans heavily on iconic imagery, big "boom" moments, and its cavalcade of stars, including Kevin Costner, Russell Crowe, Amy Adams and Michael Shannon, to sell Henry Cavill as a Superman capable of giving a giant roar, all in just 34 seconds. The movie will be in theaters on June 14. [Warner Bros.]
