Edge of Tomorrow: Tom Cruise returns to science fiction in the upcoming Edge of Tomorrow. In this twist on Groundhog Day, he'll play a soldier battling an alien invasion who falls into a time loop that forces him to relive the same day over and over. Emily Blunt plays a soldierly comrade; Doug Liman (Jumper) directed. The movie will fight its way into theaters on June 6, 2014. [USA Today]
World War Z Sequel: Confirming an unofficial statement made by Brad Pitt a couple of months ago, a sequel to zombie epic World War Z is moving forward without that film's director Marc Forster. Instead, Juan Antonio Bayona (moody horror flick The Orphanage, tsunami drama The Impossible) has come on board, which sounds like an excellent choice. The next step is the selection of writers for the screenplay; Bayona will oversee that process. [Heat Vision]
Bad Boys 3: Sony Pictures is in talks with David Guggenheim (Safe House) to write Bad Boys 3, a sequel to two action movies directed by Michael Bay and starring Will Smith and Martin Lawrence. The studio wants to bring back Smith and Lawrence, but there's no sign that Bay is involved with the project, which seems counterintuitive, since his style of outlandish action is the reason the first two movies stood out from the pack.
