Escape from New York: Plans are afoot to remake John Carpenter’s Escape from New York as a trilogy, and British actors Jason Statham and Tom Hardy are now rumored as possibilities to star as the rough-and-tumble Snake Plissken, the role made famous by Kurt Russell in the original. But Russell, in a joint interview conducted with Carpenter earlier this month, insists: “When it comes to Snake, I can tell you one thing… he’s American. It’s really important that he’s American.” [NY Daily News / Empire]

ID Forever: Director Roland Emmerich says that his proposed two-part sequel to 1996’s Independence Day will be titled ID Forever Part I and ID Forever Part II and will take place 20 years after the original -- in an alternate future in which humans have adapted alien technology for their own use. The setup is that the original invading aliens managed to send off a distress signal before they were all killed, and reinforcements have finally arrived to destroy the human race (again). The story will revolve around new, younger characters, but Bill Pullman will return. [EW.com]

Transformers 4: The female lead has been confirmed for Michael Bay’s next installment of the Transformers franchise. Nicola Peltz, who was rumored for the role back in December, will star opposite Mark Wahlberg and Jack Reynor; she is currently appearing on the A&E series Bates Motel, but otherwise her most notable role came in M. Night Shyamalan’s The Last Airbender. [Comic Book Movie] Note: The tweet confirming this casting has since been deleted with no explanation. We'll let you know when there's a new update.

Pain & Gain Trailer: Before he made PG-13 blockbusters, Michael Bay took full advantage of the possibilities available for R-rated movies, and his expertise is widely apparent in the new red-band (NSFW) trailer for Pain & Gain, which stars Mark Wahlberg and Dwyane Johnson as Miami bodybuilders who get mixed up in crime. The movie slams into theaters on April 6. [Yahoo! Movies]
