Moneyball / American Hustle / Only God Forgives

The Big Short: Brad Pitt, Christian Bale and Ryan Gosling will star in The Big Short, based on the best-selling book by Michael Lewis (Moneyball). The book "tells the story of the build-up [sic] of the housing and credit bubble during the 2000s that led to the financial crisis of 2007-2010." Pitt is serving as one of the producers; Adam McKay (Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues) is writing the screenplay and will direct. [Variety]


Escape From New York

Escape from New York: After many rumors over the years, a remake of John Carpenter's 1981 action-drama Escape from New York is finally, officially underway. The original starred Kurt Russell as Snake Plissken, a convicted felon who is forced into rescue service in 1997 after the president's plane has crashed in Manhattan, which has been transformed into a lawless prison. Carpenter will have "creative influence" on the remake, with the aim of turning it into a franchise. [Deadline]

Fifty Shades of Grey: With Fifty Shades of Grey heading to theaters on February 13, just in time for Valentine's Day, tie-in products and services are starting to pop up. One hotel in San Francisco is offering an add-on service for guests, with very intimate bedroom products packed in a discreet black box for $150. Playing It Cool Trailer: In the first trailer for Playing It Cool, Chris Evans is a writer who doesn't believe in love, which doesn't keep him from falling in love with the betwitching Michelle Monaghan. The only complication: she's already got a boyfriend. Anthony Mackie, Aubrey Plaza, Topher Grace, Luke Wilson, Ioan Gruffudd and Philip Baker Hall also star; it's due out later this year.
