Movie News: Oscaar Isaac's 'Annihilation' Nabs Release Date; Watch Bruce Willis in 'Death Wish' Trailer

Ex Machina

Annihilation: Oscar Isaac and Natalie Portman star in Annihilation, writer/director Alex Garland's followup to Ex Machina (above). The sci-fi drama follows a grieving biologist (Portman) who goes on a "secret expedition into alien territory." Tessa Thompson, Jennifer Jason Leigh and Gina Rodriguez also star. Paramount has now scheduled the movie for a wide theatrical release on February 23, 2018. [Deadline]

 

Stranger Things

Pulse: Writer Jessie Nickson-Lopez (Stranger Things, above) will adapt Michael Harvey's upcoming novel Pulse for the big screen. The story follows a teenager who begins to develop superhero abilities while investigating the mysterious murder of his older brother. Shawn Levy (Stranger Things) will serve as a producer. [THR]

 

Lowriders

Chaos Walking: Demian Bichir (Lowriders, above) has joined the cast of Chaos Walking. Tom Holland and Daisy Ridley are already set to star in the sci-fi thriller, based on a novel by Patrick Ness. Bichir will play the adoptive father of a young man who teams up with a young woman to uncover dangerous secrets on the distant planet where they both live. Doug Liman (Edge of Tomorrow) will direct; the movie is scheduled for release on March 1, 2019. [Deadline]

 

Death Wish

Death Wish Trailer: Bruce Willis stars in the first trailer for Death Wish. He plays a Chicago father whose family is torn apart by violent criminals, prompting him to become a murderous vigilante. Joe Carnahan (The Grey) wrote the script, based on a 1974 movie starring Charles Bronson; Eli Roth directed. The movie will open in theaters on November 22. [Movieclips]
