The Wolverine

The Wolverine: Hugh Jackman won acclaim for his acting and musical performance in Les Miserables, but he’s much better known as the mutant known as the Wolverine. A new image reestablishes him as the fierce, haunted hero of comic book fame. The movie, in which our hero travels to Japan, is due out in theaters on July 26. [Empire Online]

Hercules: Every muscled hero needs a feisty sidekick, even the legendary Hercules. As we already know, Dwayne Johnson will play the title character in Brett Ratner’s reimagining of the legend, with Hercules a fully mortal man, not the son of Zeus. Now we hear that Aksel Hennie, the hapless star of terrific Norwegian thriller Headhunters, will play Tydeus, described as “a warrior devoted to Hercules who wields twin axes and is such a madman that he needs to be chained up at night when he sleeps.” [The Hollywood Reporter]

Academy Awards: Sure, it’s an honor just to be nominated, but a goody bag worth $45,000 is a pretty good consolation prize for those who don’t take home an Oscar. The gift pack, which is delivered directly to the homes of nominees by a marketing firm not endorsed by the Academy, includes trips to Australia, Hawaii and Mexico, as well as “personal training sessions, condoms, a bottle of tequila, hand-illustrated tennis shoes, and ‘portion-controlled’ dinnerware. ... A professional circus class for losing nominees' children is also available.” [The Guardian]

The Reluctant Fundamentalist Trailer: A young Pakistani man (Riz Ahmed) enjoys his life in New York City until the events of 9/11 change everything in Mira Nair's The Reluctant Fundamentalist. A new trailer effectively sets up his dilemma. Kate Hudson, Kiefer Sutherland and Liev Schreiber also star; the movie will be released in select theaters starting on April 26. [Yahoo! Movies]
