Men in Black III

MIB 3 Wins: Appearing in his first starring role in four years, Will Smith led Men in Black III to the top of the box office heap, with the film earning an estimated $55 million in the U.S. through the first three days of the long weekend. That number will be buoyed by holiday crowds today, likely pushing its total up to $70 million. The Avengers fell just 37% in its fourth weekend of releases, grossing an estimated $37 million (and pushing its domestic total to $513 million); debuting horror flick Chernobyl Diaries performed poorly, taking in just $8 million. Overseas Totals: Internationally, Men in Black III doubled its U.S. total, earning an estimated $132 million; in China, it topped the opening numbers previously posted by The Avengers and Battleship. With a reported budget of $230 million, however, MIB 3 is still a long way from profitability. [The Hollywood Reporter]

Blade Runner II: As we’ve reported, Ridley Scott is planning to direct a Blade Runner sequel, with original co-writer Hampton Fancher in talks to script. And now Scott says he’d like to have Harrison Ford involved: “I don't think it'll be Harry [starring]. But I've got to have him in it somewhere. That'd be amusing." [The Independent]

Non-Casting News: All those who are not fans of Robert Pattinson can breathe a sigh of relief that he will not be appearing as Finnick Odair in The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, as had been rumored. Pattinson’s latest film is David Cronenberg’s Cosmopolis, which debuted at Cannes on Friday; the actor says he woke up to the casting rumors on Saturday, called his agent, and was reassured that he would not be offered the role. [USA Today]

Bat TV: To add a cherry on top of our interviews and set visit report, we have the newest TV spot for Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight Rises. Enjoy! [Coming Soon]
