Movie News: MTV Movie Award Winners; Plus: Wolverine, Captain America and Spider-Man Buzz

Star Wars: The Force Awakens

MTV Movie Awards: Star Wars: The Force Awakens was named best movie at the 2016 MTV Movie Awards last night. Daisy Ridley received an award as best breakthrough performance and Adam Driver was awarded best villain. Deadpool and Pitch Perfect 2 each nabbed two awards, while Straight Outta Compton was recognized as best true story. Check out the full list of winners at MTV.

 

Captain America: Civil War

Spider-Man: The next Spider-Man solo movie will feature Marvel Studios characters. Tom Holland is set to play the webslinger and will first appear in Captain America: Civil War, due out on May 6. “He is in the universe now, and the fun of the universe is that characters go back and forth,” said Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige. No specific characters have been identified yet for the untitled movie, which is scheduled for release on July 7, 2017. [EW.com]

 

Boyd Holdbrook

Wolverine 3: Boyd Holbrook (Netflix's Narcos) will portray the primary villain in the third stand-alone Wolverine movie. The character is described as "a relentless, calculating and intense head of security for a global enterprise." Holbrook joins Hugh Jackman and Patrick Stewart; James Mangold (The Wolverine) will direct. It's set for release on March 3, 2017. [Deadline]

 

Captain America: Civil War

Captain America: Civil War Clip: The first clip from Captain America: Civil War finds Captain America (Chris Evans), Falcon (Anthony Mackie) and Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen) teamed up for a fierce battle. The movie opens in theaters nationwide on May 6. [MTV]
