Pirates of the Caribbean

Pirates of the Caribbean 5: The fifth installment of the Pirates of the Caribbean series is moving forward. Disney has hired Jeff Nathanson (Rush Hour 3) to write a screenplay, with Johnny Depp in mind to return as Jack Sparrow. Depp is not officially attached yet, though he has been amenable to the idea if the script meets his approval. [Variety]

Mortimer Wintergreen: Johnny Depp might star in another magical adventure, titled Mortimer Wintergreen. He’s already set to produce, with Susanna White (Nanny McPhee Returns) attached to direct, and British TV writer Jack Thorne has now been hired to script. The title character is a traveling magician who involves a pair of runaway siblings in wild adventures. [The Hollywood Reporter]

Chinese Theatre: The famed Chinese Theatre in Hollywood will be renamed by a Chinese company. Television manufacturer TCL paid $5 million for naming rights to the landmark cinema, which opened in 1927 as Grauman’s Chinese Theatre. It was renamed Mann’s Chinese Theatre after its purchase by the Mann theater chain in 1973. Perhaps best known for its courtyard, which features footprints and handprints of movie stars, the magnificent theater plays host to a steady stream of red-carpet premieres throughout the year.
