The Great Gatsby

The Great Gatsby: Originally scheduled for release this month, Baz Luhrmann’s 3D adaptation of the romantic tragedy The Great Gatsby will instead see release on May 10, 2013. A new image highlights the romance, featuring Leonardo DiCaprio (as Jay Gatsby) staring into the eyes of Carey Mulligan (as his friend Daisy Buchanan). Sparks, as they say, will fly. [Collider]

Transcendence: Johnny Depp is set to star in Transcendence, the directorial debut of Academy Award-winning cinematographer Wally Pfister, and now the competition to play the female lead has come down to three actresses: Rooney Mara (The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo), Emily Blunt (Looper) and Rebecca Hall (Iron Man 3). They’re vying to play a character named Evelyn, who uploads the brain of a scientist (Depp) into a supercomputer after he dies. [Deadline]

Book of Life: Filmmaker Guillermo del Toro is constantly juggling current and future projects, but add this one to the definite pile. Book of Life -- formerly titled Day of the Dead -- will be released on October 10, 2014, with the backing of Fox Animation Studios. That places it well ahead of Pixar’s planned Day of the Dead-themed movie, which may not be ready until 2016. Jorge R. Gutierrez is directing Book of Life, which reportedly has something to do with the annual Mexican celebration. [The Hollywood Reporter]

The Last Stand Trailer: The third (and newest) trailer for The Last Stand shifts the focus from Arnold Schwarzenegger, as a sheriff in a small town, to the motley crew he assembles to help him; Johnny Knoxville and Luis Guzman steal the spotlight. The movie, which also stars Forest Whitaker, Jaimie Alexander, Peter Stormare, Zach Gilford and Genesis Rodriguez, opens in theaters on January 18, 2013. [Hey U Guys UK]
