Movie News: Kevin Smith Confirms 'Mallrats 2'; Alexandre Desplat Scoring New 'Star Wars'

Mar 16, 2015

Mallrats 2: Following his hint in a tweet last week about "smelling a rat" in the future, Kevin Smith confirmed to a Tucson radio station that he's halfway finished on a script for a Mallrats sequel. "Nobody’s clamoring for a Mallrats sequel," he admitted, "but I would love to make one. It’s been like 20 years." He also said it would likely begin shooting in mid 2016, around the time Clerks III opens. [Variety]

Star Wars: Rogue One: It's understandable that John Williams won't be able to score every one of the new Star Wars movies, and that's the case beginning with the standalone Star Wars: Rogue One. Instead, Alexandre Desplat will reunite with Godzilla director Gareth Edwards and Twilight: New Moon director Chris Weitz (as writer) for the movie, which stars Felicity Jones and arrives at the end of 2016. Beauty and the Beast: Another character in Disney's live-action remake of Beauty and the Beast has been cast, this one with the guy behind one of the studio's most beloved new animated characters. Josh Gad, voice of Frozen's Olaf, will play LeFou, Gaston's weasily little sidekick, who was invented for the 1991 version of the fairy tale. [The Hollywood Reporter]

Before I Wake Trailer: Mike Flanagan's follow-up to Oculus stars Kate Bosworth and Thomas Jane as foster parents to a little boy (Jacob Tremblay) whose dreams -- including nightmares -- come true. So, what initially looks like a magical fantasy turns into another creepy horror flick. Annabeth Gish and Dash Mihok co-star in the movie, which opens in theaters on May 8. [MovieClips]
