Transcendence

Transcendence: Johnny Depp headlines a terrific cast that includes Morgan Freeman, Rebecca Hall and Cillian Murphy in Transcendence, directed by Wally Pfister (cinematographer for Christopher Nolan's Batman trilogy). Depp is a computer scientist who is studying artificial intelligence; he gets a first-hand look when he's uploaded into a computer, as the first official images show. The movie opens on April 18. Avengers: Age of Ultron: Don Cheadle is returning to play Colonel James Rhodes, better known as War Machine, in Avengers: Age of Ultron. He is said to play a "key role in the conflict with Ultron," the villain of the piece to be essayed by James Spader. The character was played by Terence Howard in Iron Man before Cheadle took over for Iron Man 2 and Iron Man 3. [HitFix]

Murder on the Orient Express: Sidney Lumet's delightful adaptation of Agatha Christie's mystery novel Murder on the Orient Express earned six Academy Award nominations, including an Oscar for Ingrid Bergman, back in 1974. Now a new version is on its way, under the oversight of Ridley Scott, Mark Gordon and Simon Kinberg (X-Men: Days of Future Past). Set in the 1930s, the story tells of a rich industrialist who is killed on board a luxury train that is stuck in the snow, forcing famed detective Hercule Poirot to solve a case in which everyone is a suspect. Absolutely Anything: Simon Pegg is joining members of the Monty Python troupe for a new sci-fi comedy, Absolutely Anything. Pegg will play a school teacher who is bestowed with magical powers by aliens, who will be voiced by Python alumni John Cleese, Michael Palin, Terry Gilliam and Terry Jones, with Robin Williams voicing a dog; Jones will direct. The Legend of Hercules Trailer: The newest trailer for The Legend of Hercules, opening in theaters on January 10, reinforces our impression that Hercules (Kellan Lutz) is a half-god, half-man of few words -- but he looks splendid making a swan dive off a cliff and is quite handy with a giant "lightning whip." Scott Adkins, Gaia Weiss and Roxanne McKee also star; Renny Harlin directs. [Summit]
