Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope

Star Wars: Episode 7: Harrison Ford is “open” to playing Han Solo in the upcoming Star Wars: Episode 7. Ford was in favor of killing off the character for 1983’s Return of the Jedi, an idea that was vetoed by George Lucas out of concern for action figure sales; the actor has long evinced little enthusiasm for his role in the original trilogy. Now, though, at the age of 70, he might consider a return, depending on the script and the director eventually chosen.  [Entertainment Weekly]

White House Down: What better way to honor Election Day than by sharing the first look at aspiring Secret Service agent Channing Tatum protecting the president of the United States (Jamie Foxx) when he comes under attack by a paramilitary group? White House Down, due out next summer, features a terrific supporting cast: Maggie Gyllenhaal, James Woods, Richard Jenkins, Jason Clarke and Lance Reddick; Roland Emmerich, who blew up the White House in Independence Day, directs. Max Landis: The son of director John Landis (Animal House) has landed his first gig as a feature-film director. Max Landis, 27, already has earned multiple credits as a writer (including this year’s Chronicle) and has several scripts in development. Me Him Her is described as a weird and surreal look at three young people, one of whom has sexual-identity issues. The film is tentatively scheduled to start shooting next spring. [Variety via The Film Stage]

World War Z Footage: Brad Pitt stars in the big-screen adaptation of Max Brooks’ zombie epic World War Z, and the first footage from the film has surfaced. Marc Forster directed the movie, which reportedly needed last-minute script work to shore up the ending as well as extensive reshoots; it’s now due for release on June 21, 2013.
