The Descendants

George Clooney: A much-in-demand star may be returning to science fiction in a super-secret project for Disney. George Clooney (Solaris) is in talks to star in a project currently known as 1952; Damon Lindelof (Lost, Prometheus) wrote the script and Brad Bird (The Incredibles, Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol) will direct. While no details are known, the film is described as in the spirit of Steven Spielberg’s Close Encounters of the Third Kind. [The Hollywood Reporter]

Kick-Ass 2: Chloe Moretz has made great strides in her career since costarring in 2010’s Kick-Ass, but she looks as tough as ever in new photos from the set in England. That’s her with the purple wig and purple, gloved costume as she wields nunchucks against a couple of bad guys. Advance word is that her character plays an even bigger role in the sequel, which is due out next summer. [Daily Mail via Latino Review]

Kick-Ass 2

The Wizard of Oz: Judy Garland played a very different type of young heroine in 1939’s The Wizard of Oz, a character who remains one of the most beloved in film history. That may explain why the gingham gown worn by Garland in the movie just sold at auction for $480,000. Other items sold during the same auction include a racing jacket owned by Steve McQueen, which sold for $50,000; apparently that’s what they call “a bargain.” [The Guardian]

A Young Doctor’s Notebook Trailer: Continuing our theme for the day, Daniel Radcliffe, the former teen star of Harry Potter, has definitely moved on, and the trailer for his newest project, A Young Doctor’s Notebook, shows his lighter side as he bathes with Jon Hamm (Mad Men). Fear not, it’s only a promo for a new limited U.K. TV series, in which the two stars play the same character at different ages, but it’s too good not to share. [Empire Online]
