X-Men: Days of Future Past

X-Men: Days of Future Past: Director Bryan Singer calls it "an inbetweenquel," not exactly a prequel and not exactly a sequel. But however you want to describe it, X-Men: Days of Future Past is heading to theaters on May 23, and the first images for the characters known as Quicksilver (Evan Peters) -- he's a bit hidden, but he's in the back, in silver, above -- and Beast (Nicholas Hoult), with Wolverine in the photo below, have emerged. The Jungle Book: Alejandro Gonzales Inarritu, a very cool director (21 Grams, Babel), has dropped out of consideration for The Jungle Book, an adaptation of Rudyard Kipling's collection of stories. The Warner Bros. project is in competition with a family-friendly, action/visual effects version being prepared by Disney, which has Jon Favreau set to direct, so Warner Bros. is expected to act quickly to find a replacement. Stalingrad: Russian war epic Stalingrad has been breaking box office records in its native land, and now it's coming to America in a big way. The 3D movie, which is set during World War II and focuses on a group of Russian soldiers in a desperate battle with the invading German army, will open in IMAX theaters for an exclusive one-week run on February 28. Fedor Bondarchuk directed; he previously made the powerful war movie The Ninth Company. [The Wrap]

The Unknown Known Trailer: An absorbing film by famed documentarian Errol Morris (The Fog of War), The Unknown Known focuses on former U.S. Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld, who talks about his long political career, sometimes in a maddening, evasive manner. The movie opens in theaters on April 4. [YouTube]
