Seventh Son

Seventh Son: It may be hard to tell, but that’s Jeff Bridges under the cloak as Master John Gregory, a powerful Dark Ages knight, in the upcoming Seventh Son. Due out in October 2013, the movie is the big-screen adaptation of Joseph Delaney’s novel The Spook’s Apprentice, which revolves around the knight, his latest apprentice (Ben Barnes) and an evil witch (Julianne Moore) who has escaped centuries-long imprisonment and is rounding up a supernatural army for battle. Alicia Vikander (Anna Karenina) and Kit Harington (Game of Thrones) also star. [USA Today]

The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel: Not too long ago, we heard that a sequel to worldwide box office hit The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel was in the planning stages. Now comes word that Academy Award winners Helen Mirren and Colin Firth are “likely additions,” along with “possibly” an American actress, and that the sequel will continue the adventures of British retirees in India. The principal members of the original cast, including Judi Dench and Maggie Smith, all want to return. [Showbiz 411]

Star Wars: His name may not be as familiar as others in the Star Wars universe, but producer Rick McCallum has been a key creative force at Lucasfilm for 20 years, playing an important role in bringing the special editions of the original trilogy and also the prequel trilogy to the big screen. But, with the pending sale of the company to Disney and George Lucas' handing off to exec Kathleen Kennedy, McCallum is moving on, both literally -- he is now living in Europe -- and creatively, having officially left Lucafilm. He plans to make smaller, independent movies. [Variety]

The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey TV Spot: As we barrel along to the December 14 opening of Peter Jackson’s The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, attentive viewers have noted that the latest TV spot for the movie features a fleeting glimpse of the dragon Smaug, who will play a starring role in the second installment of the trilogy. Can you spot the fire-breathing dragon? [SlashFilm]
