Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children

Dumbo: Eva Green, who recently starred in Tim Burton's Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children (above), is in talks to star in Dumbo, Burton's live-action adaptation of Disney's animated classic. If things work out, she would likely play one of three main adult roles. Green and Burton previously teamed in Dark Shadows. [Deadline]

 

La La Land

First Man: Recently we heard that Ryan Gosling and Damien Chazelle, who teamed quite successfully on La La Land (above), would reunite to make First Man, a biographical drama about astronaut Neil Armstrong, the first man to step foot on the moon. Now the movie has a release date: October 12, 2018. [THR]

 

Get on the Bus

Rodney King: For the past four years, Roger Guenveur Smith has been performing a one-man show based on the life of Rodney King, the victim of a videotaped beating by police officers in 1991. The show was captured by director Spike Lee (Get on the Bus, above, with Smith and others) in New York City last August and now Rodney King is heading to Netflix. The streaming service will debut the movie on April 28, the 25th anniversary of the date when the police officers were acquitted. [Variety]

 

Mandy Moore

Darkest Minds: Mandy Moore (above) will join Amandla Stenberg in the sci-fi thriller Darkest Minds. Jennifer Yuh Nelson (Kung Fu Panda 2 and Kung Fu Panda 3) will direct. It's based on a trilogy of books by Alexandra Bracken and set in an America in which a pandemic has killed most of the children and teenagers. The surviving, superpowered teenagers are placed in internment camps until a small group escapes and goes on the run. [THR]

 

Smurfs: The Lost Village

Smurfs: The Lost Village Clip: A new clip from Smurfs: The Lost Village highlights the potential dangers of wild flowers. The animated adventure, featuring the voices of Julia Roberts, Demi Lovato and many more, will open in theaters on April 7. [Movieclips]
