Marvel and Muppet Mysteries: Without revealing their content, Walt Disney Studios has laid claim to the opening weekend of summer blockbuster season for untitled Marvel movies in 2016 (May 6) and 2017 (May 5), following the release pattern established by The Avengers and Iron Man 3. Let the speculation begin! The sequel to The Avengers is already set for release on May 1, 2015. Meanwhile, the next installment in the Muppets franchise has been officially titled Muppets Most Wanted, due on March 21, 2014.
Hello Ghost: Adam Sandler is teaming up with Chris Columbus, the writer of The Goonies and the director of Mrs. Doubtfire, for a remake of a Korean movie titled Hello Ghost. The original supernatural comedy follows a man who attempts to kill himself, and is then plagued by ghosts who need his help. This is the third project that Columbus has recently set up, and it sounds like a good pairing for the two veterans. [The Hollywood Reporter]
More Upcoming: Disney has tweaked release dates for possible award-contending films, opening Saving Mr. Banks -- with Tom Hanks as Walt Disney wooing the author of Mary Poppins for the film rights -- one week earlier on December 13, 2013, doing likewise for Brad Bird's mysterious Tomorrowland with George Clooney (to December 12, 2014), and setting Rob Marshall's musical Into the Woods for Christmas Day, 2014. Also for 2014, the studio has scheduled family films Planes: Fire and Rescue (July 18), The Hundred-Foot Journey (August 8) and Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day (October 10).
