Mary Poppins

Mary Poppins: Disney is developing a new version of Mary Poppins. Rob Marshall (Into the Woods) will direct; the story will take place some 20 years after the events depicted in the 1964 family musical and will draw from the same source, a series of books by P.L. Travers. Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman (Hairspray) will compose new songs; David Magee (Finding Neverland) will write the screenplay. The making of the 1964 movie, starring Julie Andrews and Dick Van Dyke, was the subject of 2013's Saving Mr. Banks. [EW.com]

True Detective

Doctor Strange: Rachel McAdams was first rumored for the female lead in Doctor Strange back in July, and now the actress says that she will indeed join what she described as a "kind of psychedelic Marvel comic" movie, though she did not confirm what role she will play. Benedict Cumberbatch will star as the titular neurosurgeon turned sorcerer; Tilda Swinton and Chiwetel Ejiofor are also confirmed. Production is expected to get underway in November; the movie is set for release on November 4, 2016. [The Wrap]

Chappie / Desert Dancer

Tomboy: Sigourney Weaver and Frieda Pinto are in negotiations to co-star in Tomboy, an action movie with action specialist Walter Hill (48 HRS.) attached to direct. Hill also co-wrote the script with Denis Hamill; the plot follows a hitman who is unwillingly transformed into a woman by a rogue surgeon (Weaver); the assassin then seeks revenge with the aid of a nurse (Pinto). The project is still in search of someone to star in the deadly lead role. [Heat Vision]

Creed

Creed Trailer: Michael B. Jordan stars in Creed as the son of champion boxer Apollo Creed, but the spotlight in a new trailer shines on co-star Sylvester Stallone, reprising his role as Rocky Balboa, now serving as a mentor and trainer. The movie opens in theaters on November 25. [Movieclips]
