The Avengers

Sam the Mogul: Designated authority figure / bad-ass Samuel L. Jackson will play a media mogul in the remake of Robocop, to be directed by Jose Padilha. The original featured running commentary via newscasts anchored by Mario Machado and Leeza Gibbons; Jackson’s character is said to be “a powerful force in the Robocop world” -- perhaps someone like Rupert Murdoch? We do know that Gary Oldman will play the morally conflicted creator of Robocop, so some kind of villain appears to be up for grabs. [The Hollywood Reporter]

Django for President: As we’ve reported, two competing White House-themed thrillers are in the works, and one may have just edged ahead. Jamie Foxx is in talks to play the President in White House Down, to be directed by Roland Emmerich; Channing Tatum is set to play a secret service agent. With last night's premiere on Fandango of the trailer for Django Unchained, Foxx is red-hot, so if all goes well, the competing White House Taken -- with Gerard Butler and director Antoine Fuqua attached -- will need to step up its game. The Real Twilight: Will the third time be the charm? Warner Bros. is trying to mount a big-screen version of Rod Serling’s The Twilight Zone under the direction of Matt Reeves (Cloverfield), but the script still needs work, as the studio is negotiating with Joby Harold (All You Need is Kill, Awake) to do a rewrite; he would be the third writer to take a pass. Maybe the spirit of Rod Serling is trying to tell them something? [Variety]

Denzel Takes Flight: Director Robert Zemeckis returns to live action for the first time in 12 years with Flight, starring Denzel Washington as a airline pilot who pulls off a miraculous landing, then struggles to deal with the aftermath. The first trailer has dropped, and the last shot is … jaw-dropping. [iTunes Movie Trailers via ComingSoon]
