The Dark Knight Rises

Everest: Christian Bale is in talks to star in Everest, to be directed by Baltasar Kormakur (The Deep, Contraband). The film tells the real-life story of the 1996 mountain-climbing disaster on Mount Everest that was also the basis for Jon Krakauer’s excellent, best-selling book Into Thin Air, and should not be confused with another upcoming movie titled Everest, which follows a 1920s expedition. The latter has Doug Liman set to direct with Tom Hardy to star. Kormakur says he wants to film on Mount Everest as much as possible. [Deadline / Filmmaker Magazine]

The Ends of the Earth: Jennifer Lawrence will be teaming up with director David O. Russell for the third time in the upcoming drama The Ends of the Earth. It’s described as a “fact-based love story about a powerful oil tycoon who has everything stripped from him after he is caught in an affair.” Russell directed Lawrence’s Academy Award-nominated performance in Silver Linings Playbook, and also recently cast her in his ABSCAM project, tentatively titled American Bulls***, though that’s evidently only a cameo appearance. The Equalizer: After directing Rise of the Planet of the Apes, which was better and more popular than anyone anticipated, Rupert Wyatt decided not to do the next installment in the series. Instead, he may be jump-starting a new (potential) franchise: The Equalizer, with Denzel Washington, based on the TV series that starred Edward Woodward. Washington will play a somewhat modified version of the character, a man who helps people who have been victimized. [Deadline]

Kiss of the Damned Red-Band Trailer: Milo Ventimiglia is a little slow to realize that sexy Josephine de La Baume’s “skin condition” is a flimsy excuse to hide her true identity as a vampire, but when the truth comes out, the clothes come off and the blood begins to flow in the red-band (NSFW) trailer for Kiss of the Damned, directed by Xan Cassavetes. The movie will be available via various video-on-demand platforms on March 28, ahead of its limited theatrical release on May 3. Here's our chat with Cassavetes from last week when we premiered the film's poster. (Yahoo! Movies via Collider)
