Dark Places

Dark Places: Charlize Theron stars in the upcoming thriller Dark Places, based on the best-selling novel by Gillian Flynn (Gone Girl). She plays a woman who survived the massacre of her family when she was a child but now must deal with the possibility that she misidentified her brother as the killer. The first official photo shows Theron in full, "hide in plain sight" mode. Nicholas Hoult, Chloë Grace Moretz, Christina Hendricks and Drea de Matteo also star. [Collider]

Pan: Joe Wright, who's made period dramas Atonement and Anna Karenina, but also the action picture Hanna, is in talks to direct a new version of J.M. Barrie's Peter Pan. Gary Ross (The Hunger Games) was reported to be in talks to direct a Pan prequel last year, but this project, titled Pan, is different. It follows an orphan who "is taken to the magical world of Neverland, where he becomes the savior of the natives and leads a rebellion against the evil pirates." It sounds more like an origin story; TV veteran Greg Berlanti (Everwood, Arrow) is producing. [Deadline]

The Princess Bride: Disney is developing a stage production of William Goldman's The Princess Bride. Goldman's original fantasy book, first published in 1973, served as the basis for Rob Reiner's beloved 1987 film version, for which Goldman also wrote the screenplay. No decision has been made as to whether it will be a musical or a straight play. Disney is also in various stages of development on screen-to-stage versions of Dumbo, Freaky Friday and Shakespeare in Love. [Variety]

Tar Trailer: Made by 12 New York University film students who shared in writing and directing, Tar is a unique biographical portrait of Pulitzer Prize-winning poet C.K. Williams. James Franco, Mila Kunis, Jessica Chastain and Bruce Campbell star; plans for a theatrical release have not yet been determined. [Vulture]
