Movie News: Charlie Hunnam Heads to 'Lost City of Z'; Transfixing First Trailer for Ryan Gosling's 'Lost River'

Pacific Rim

The Lost City of Z: Charlie Hunnam (above in Pacific Rim), who was cast in the lead role for Fifty Shades of Grey before dropping out, now finds himself in the opposite situation: he's replacing Benedict Cumberbatch in a lead role in The Lost City of Z. Based on a true story about an explorer searching the Amazon, the adventure also stars Robert Pattinson and Sienna Miller, and will be directed by James Gray. [The Hollywood Reporter]

 

Stargate

Stargate: The proposed remake of 1994's Stargate is moving forward. Nicolas Wright and James A. Woods are in final negotiations to write a new screenplay; they previously worked with director Roland Emmerich on the upcoming sequel Independence Day 2. Point Break

Point Break: The remake of 1991's Point Break (above) has been moved from July 31 to December 25 on the release calendar. Edgar Ramirez and Luke Bracey star in the crime thriller. While the original showcased surfing action, the remake reportedly features more extreme sports, so perhaps it's more appropriate weatherwise for the Christmas season. [Deadline]

 

Lost River

Lost River Trailer: The first trailer for Lost River is colorful and transfixing. Christina Hendricks stars as a single mother raising two boys, trying to keep her family from sliding into criminal troubles. Saoirse Ronan, Eva Mendes and Matt Smith also star; Ryan Gosling wrote and directed. The movie opens in theaters on April 10. [MovieClips]
