Bryan Singer / The Moon Is a Harsh Mistress

Uprising: Director Bryan Singer (X-Men) is ready to take on a new challenge: transforming The Moon Is a Harsh Mistress into Uprising for the big screen. The 1966 novel by science-fiction master Robert A. Heinlein examines a revolt by a large colony on the moon against human rule on Earth. Marc Guggenheim (TV's Arrow) will write the screenplay for the retitled project. [Heat Vision]

Steve Martin

Billy Lynn's Long Halftime Walk: Steve Martin will join director Ang Lee for Billy Lynn's Long Halftime Walk, an adaptation of a novel by Ben Fountain. Newcomer Joe Alwyn will star as the titular character, a soldier who comes home with his unit for a promotional tour after a well-publicized battle in Iraq, all the while knowing that further combat awaits. Garrett Hedlund is also under consideration for a key role in the movie. [Deadline]

Jessie Usher / Jeff Goldblum / Liam Hemsworth

Independence Day 2: Jessie Usher (When the Game Stands Tall) will star in Independence Day 2 as the son of the character played by Will Smith in the original. While Smith is sitting this one out, his running partner Jeff Goldblum has been confirmed to return, and Liam Hemsworth has also joined the cast, according to director Roland Emmerich. Monsters: Dark Continent

Monsters: Dark Continent Trailer: The sequel to Monsters, the lo-fi alien invasion picture that director Gareth Edwards made before Godzilla, is heading to theaters on April 17, and, as its title -- Monsters: Dark Continent -- implies, it's set in a far different mileau than the original. This time the story revolves around a military unit in the Middle East that must rescue comrades from the dangerous aliens. [Radius/TWC]
