Bradley Cooper: Academy Award-nominated Bradley Cooper will star in Dark Invasion, based on a forthcoming book by Howard Blum set during the first World War. Cooper will play a NYPD officer charged with tracking down German spies who are waging a covert war to keep the U.S. from helping Allied forces; it’s based on a true story. [Deadline]

Anne Hathaway: Oscar-nominated Anne Hathaway has nabbed the lead role in a new version of Taming of the Shrew. Abi Morgan (The Iron Lady, Shame) will adapt the play by William Shakespeare; the film will be set in modern-day Italy and will no doubt update the battle-of-the-sexes story in other ways too. Most recently, the play served as inspiration for 1999 teen comedy 10 Things I Hate About You. [The Wrap]

Ben-Hur: A new version of Ben-Hur: A Tale of the Christ is on its way. MGM first adapted Lew Wallace’s novel for a 1925 silent movie; William Wyler’s 1959 version, which starred Charlton Heston, won 11 Academy Awards and is best remembered for its sensational chariot race. The new script by Keith Clarke tells the story of best friends -- one a Jew, the other a Roman -- who become rivals in the time of Christ and whose parallel story will also be told. [Deadline]

The End of Love Trailer: A father must come to grips with the loss of his wife and the challenge of raising his young son in Mark Webber’s The End of Love. Webber wrote, directed and stars in the story of a struggling actor who begins a new relationship with single mother Shannyn Sossamon. Amanda Seyfried and Michael Cera also star; the movie will be available via VOD on January 21. [The Film Stage]
